What is the UNPAN Portal

  • A global on-line network on Public Administration and Finance supported by regional partners
  • It promotes knowledge sharing throughout the world re sound public policies, effective public administration and efficient public services
  • Supports capacity-development and cooperation among the UN member states

It is tool for knowledge sharing in the areas of:

  • Public service transformation and reforms
  • Public administration systems and public service in the developing and developed countries.
  • Institutional development, financial and human resource management of the public sector for improved service delivery.

Objective of the UNPAN portal:

To support the development of efficient public administration systems and competency in the public services, especially in developing countries

Purpose of workshop

To ensure that the SADC Region maximises its role and contribution to information and knowledge management of the United Nations family through:

  • Sharing best practices
  • Consolidating the team of content coordinators for the SADC Region into a functional network,
  • Reporting of progress report
  • Interrogating the dynamics and content challenges in each country and exploring mechanisms for maximizing participation

Benefits of knowledge networks

  • Knowledge networks are key to the growth of states into effective and sustainable knowledge economies
  • Concerted effort by all of us and total dedication are needed for these networks to thrive and become catalysts for learning, innovation and, ultimately, the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals
