Innovation conference 2008

Rationale

The expectations of our citizens are complex, divergent and ever more personalised. It is therefore imperative for a 21st Century public sector to be innovative in maximising inclusiveness and access to services. The conference will therefore provide:

  • a platform for public servants who are committed to the plight of the vulnerable and excluded, to collaboratively interrogate ways of entrenching innovation in service delivery
  • space to demystify innovation for implementation, from buzzword to organisational culture
  • an opportunity to explore people-centred innovation

Sub themes

1. Citizen convenience

This discussion will position citizen convenience at the centre of public sector innovation, to ensure that innovative initiatives are not for their own sake but are driven by citizens&146; needs and how best to deliver government services.

2. Processes and innovation

The Commission will focus on innovation aimed at improving institutional processes and systems to provide an enabling environment for public servants and partners to think creatively and act innovatively.

3. Service delivery technology innovation

Presenters will demonstrate how ICT is a critical enabler for innovatively addressing service delivery blockages. The role of technology in public service delivery will be interrogated.
